Who was the last person you spoke to?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for October 03, 2008:
I spoke to my dad this morning for about 35 minutes. My mom passes away about 4weeks ago and I try to check in on him every couple days -- enough so that he knows I care without being too smothering.
I've never really had that close of a relationship with my dad - I mean, Ilove him, but I wouldn't really consider him a friend and now we are trying to bridge that gap. SO I thnk today was a good conversation and yes I feel positive about the depth we are reaching. I firmly believe that it is just a matter of time for us to change the roles of Father/protector to Daughter into related friends.
Thanks!
Debi

Help

Debi I admire you for what you are doing and I encourage you to keep at it. I hope your efforts will be most rewarding. Were you very close to your mother?
yeah I was! My mom was only 17 years older than me and once I graduted college in 1982 (see I'm dating myself again), we developed a really close friendship relationship. For the most part, I talked to my mom every morning for the last 26 years… usually over my first cup of coffee.
So now my role has changed from being the reble with a gypsy's soul to having to be the peacemaker and glue that holds the family together and I'm not feeling really comfortable in that role right now…. Kind of like buying new shoes that need to be broken in!
I'm really hoping that Dad and I can become friends and peers…. that would mean so much to me!
Thanks for the words of encouragement!
